| For Immediate Release Exhibitor, attendee turnout secure GATS' position as second-largest trucking trade show Tuscaloosa, Ala. (September 20, 2002) – Dallas was the center of the trucking world on September 6, 7 and 8 as the 4th annual Great American Trucking Show drew 36,330 attendees and exhibitors. During its three day run at The Dallas Convention Center, GATS drew industry professionals from all 50 states and 35 countries. "We were more than pleased with the turn out, not just in quantity, but also in quality," said Warren Sellers, Show Manager for Sellers Expositions. "GATS has the largest promotion campaign of any trucking event. That successful promotion was reflected in attendance at GATS this year, the second largest trucking show in terms of both exhibitors and attendees." Exhibitors and attendees both gave GATS 2002 rave reviews. "GATS was an excellent show," stated Susan Alt, exhibitor and Vice President of Marketing for Volvo Trucks North America. "We were pleasantly surprised with the volume of traffic and genuine interest in our product. The facility provides easy access for show set up and tear down, as well as excellent amenities during the show. Show management was a pleasure to work with and made the show user-friendly for exhibitors. Volvo looks forward to returning for GATS 2003!" "GATS was a fantastic show," said Jeff Bowling, attendee and owner-operator for Mercer Transport. "Parking at Fair Park was great and all the drivers enjoyed the food and entertainment immensely. GATS is the best trade show I have ever attended!" GATS attendees come from a broad range of trucking professions, including fleet owners, fleet managers, owner operators, purchasing agents, company drivers and family members. This year, GATS provided attendees with a wide variety of product and service displays, educational seminars from The Texas Motor Transportation Association, a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders autograph session, prize giveaways and free concerts. Tracy Byrd, sponsored by Volvo Trucks North America capped off the first day of GATS by performing before an appreciative audience. Byrd's concert included many of his own hits, including "Watermelon Crawl" and his most recent song "Ten Rounds." Ending the second busy day of GATS was a "standing room only" concert featuring John Michael Montgomery, sponsored by Ford Commercial Truck. Montgomery wooed the large crowd by singing old favorites, such as "I Swear" and his new single "Till Nothing Comes Between Us." More than 10,000 visitors registered online for GATS at www.gatsonline.com. Those who registered via the Internet were included in drawings for backstage concert passes and a Caterpillar Race Package Giveaway. Backstage winners for the Tracy Byrd concert included Ricardo Rivera of Laredo, Texas, Joe Berta of Lahoma, Okla., Trisha Smith of Chandler, Texas, and Jeff Hardage of Garland, Texas. John Michael Montgomery backstage winners included Rodney Oaks of Horton, Kan., Forrest Flener of Dallas and Ricky Underwood of Boyd, Texas. The lucky Caterpillar winner was CDL holder Joe Charboneau of Millington, Tenn. Charboneau receives four free tickets to the 2003 Winston Cup Race at Texas Motor Speedway, along with two nights' accommodations at the Dallas/Fort Worth Marriott. He will also be a V.I.P. guest in the Caterpillar venue at Hospitality Village, have the chance to meet driver Ward Burton, tour the pits first hand and receive $500 spending money, compliments of GATS. New features included the New Products Showcase, Expedited Trucking InfoCenter, International Buyer Program and TMTA's Mobile Classroom and Truck Driving Simulator. Other highlights included the Commercial Work Truck Pavilion, Recruitment Pavilion, Internet and Technology Pavilion and Overdrive's "indoor" Pride & Polish competition. A list of winners can be found at www.eTrucker.com. A special seminar entitled "Strengthening Your Family For The Long Haul" was held on Saturday and featured a panel of experts from Focus On The Family, the nation's largest family-related Christian ministry. Before the seminar began, the winner of the first Truckers News magazine Great American TruckingFamily was announced. The honor went to the Snyder Family, a clan comprised of mainly owner-operators in the household moving industry. Focus On The Family also presented a special Fellowship Service on Sunday morning. More truckers took advantage of free overnight truck parking at Fair Park in Dallas than in any previous show year. Attendees enjoyed free food, drinks and entertainment, compliments of the five fleets that make up The Acklie Companies. Free shuttle service was provided all three days of the show.
